When the Sandhof Lilies Bloom
Sandhof is usually a dry clay pan, but after enough rain the landscape can be covered in millions of pale pink and white lilies. The bloom lasts only a few days. When word reached me, I packed my gear and drove fourteen hours to Namibia. I spent the time photographing the scale of the flowers, their details and reflections in shallow water, before returning after dark to try a photograph I had imagined for years: the lilies beneath the Milky Way.

I'm Kyle Goetsch, a South African nature photographer and photography educator based in Cape Town. My work takes me into wild landscapes, among wildlife and beneath the night sky, always searching for that moment when light and story come together.
I left a career in science to follow this passion full-time. Today I share what I've learned through small-group workshops, practical courses and the stories behind the photographs.
